  1. Real

Real was written after a conversation with a friend, who was devastated about her relationship that was fractured and ending. The conversation in person was honest and raw, and heartbreaking. Later that day, she posted on social media describing a love that was perfect, complete with a smiley picture to solidify the phony message.

We need real, human connection. The worlds we create online simply makes us desperate to live other people’s lives - - constantly feeding into our insecurities and tendencies to compare ourselves to others. When we let go of our “brand” and have the courage to be vulnerable about who we are, we realize that we are indeed, quite flawed but also completely divine.

Real is Funky and soulful and culminates in an indie-rock crescendo. Band is: Bre Gregg (vocals), Dan Gildea (guitar + backing vocals), Jeff Langston (bass) and Charlie Doggett (drums) with the enhancement of Steve Swatkins (Allen Stone, Excellent Gentleman + Steve Swatkins and the Positive Agenda) on Hammond B3 and Beth Wood on backing vocals.

Lyrics

I set out to seize the day
Tripped on karma turned to gray
Can’t seem to keep this happy place
And I’m hard as stone

Turn on a screen and I’m lower still
battle with myself, and it’s all uphill
Never get back this moment
that is lost on the wind…

And I need something real
Cause I want what you got
And I’m tired of foolin’ round with things that are not
And we’re sent from above
But we live here below
And we are tryin’ to make some sense
And prove we’re not alone.

I want your life and you want mine
We’re never satisfied in this game of time
Walkin’ together but we’re all alone
The weaker side of flesh and bone!

And I need something real
Cause I want what you got
And I’m tired of foolin’ round with things that are not
And we’re sent from above
But we live here below
And we are tryin’ to make some sense
And prove we’re not alone.

Hold each other baby don’t let go
The only thing sure in life is hope
We’re full of love and we’re full of light
If we open up we just might be…real.
